About this Presentation
The TOC retail solution is now a flourishing one, but the tools, results, and concepts pertaining to the retail solution are scattered, uncoordinated and sometimes inconsistent. In this presentation, the author gathers all that was developed in TOC for retail, makes the assumption explicit, irons out the inconsistencies and presents a comprehensive view of the breath of the application and what is to be expected as new developments are presented. The presentation content will include (but not be limited to): basic assumptions of TOC distribution and retail and their validity, limits of pull replenishment, product focusing, seasonality, mix management, short-life products, purchasing, product development, pricing, etc.
What Will You Learn
To help you get the most value from this session, we’ve highlighted a few key points. These takeaways capture the main ideas and practical insights from the presentation, making it easier for you to review, reflect, and apply what you’ve learned.
Retail is not just about selling more units. This session reframes the challenge around time, throughput, and flow, showing why availability and speed matter more than many traditional retail assumptions.
A standout idea is the retail product taxonomy: not every SKU should be managed the same way, and understanding patterns like alpha, beta, and gamma can change how you think about stockouts, excess, and margin loss.
The session goes beyond basic replenishment into a more nuanced retail logic, including SKU buffers, alternatives, grids, fast movers, and how to handle new products without clogging the system. 4.One of the strongest insights is financial: the real decision lens is not sales alone, but the relationship between throughput, investment, and turns - especially when choosing what to buy, replenish, and keep moving.
