2016 TOCICO International Conference

The TOCICO Theory of Constraints International Conference: 14th Annual Worldwide Gathering of TOC Professionals, held in Leesburg, Virginia, from September 18–21, 2016, brought together TOC practitioners, consultants, researchers, educators, and business leaders to share practical applications and new developments in the Theory of Constraints.

Conference sessions focused on supply chain, retail, Critical Chain Project Management, production flow, education, aviation, aerospace, finance, research, and organizational change. Through case studies, workshops, and presentations, speakers showed how TOC can improve flow, simplify complexity, manage uncertainty, strengthen decision-making, and support sustainable growth across diverse industries.

  • Expanding our paradigm about resistance to change

    Course

Achieving a Viable Vision demands continuous improvement, proper culture, and talent. Two cases highlight the necessity of elevating managerial constraint and changing company culture for sustained growth and success.

  • TOC for Education: A logistical approach

    Course

Educational quality is declining due to knowledge growth, unmotivated students, and cost issues. A new 3-year logistical solution addresses the core cloud and enables POOGI without extensive training or investment for most schools.

  • TOC retail: The works-a comprehensive view of the TOC solution for retail and its next steps of development

    Course

The author consolidates scattered, inconsistent TOC retail tools and concepts into a comprehensive presentation, covering basic assumptions, pull replenishment limits, product focusing, seasonality, mix management, and more.

  • Impact of sales concentration over constrained delivery data distribution system

    Course

JACK & JONES, a BESTSELLER brand, used a NeoGrid solution with dynamic buffer management for product replenishment. A trial with Zalando saw on-shelf-availability jump from 85% to 95% and sales increase 15.3% in the first month.

  • Enhancing airplane availability

    Course

Applying CCPM to aircraft C checks at TAP Maintenance & Engineering reduced turnaround time (TAT). Key elements included reducing projects in work, decreasing multitasking, defining clear priorities, and using buffer management.

  • Quick decision making in a cash constraint situation workshop

    Course

A cash constraint occurs when material shortages prevent order delivery because vendors refuse credit. This workshop uses a case study and simulation to provide deeper insights into cash-to-cash cycle time and velocity.

  • Simplifying measurements to make more money workshop

    Course

TOC implementations fail when global measurements (volume, sales, market share, margin) aren't updated, leading to old behaviors. This presentation proposes new prime and supporting measurements aligned with financial health and constraints.

  • Applying TOC-TP tools in higher education (HE): Exploring the core dilemmas in teaching and learning

    Course

Research used Theory of Constraints (TOC) to investigate causes of less-than-ideal learning and teaching experiences in business schools in Kenya and New Zealand, finding the TOC methodology valuable for root cause analysis.

  • Chinese culture and TOC

    Course

The cell is empty, so I cannot summarize the description.

  • TOC for academic research - moving from common sense to common practice

    Course

Academic research often uses qualitative methods, but researchers still face difficulties. This paper explores using TOC tools to complement qualitative research methods, combining the methodologies for more logical and coherent research.

  • Expanding the world of theory of constraints

    Course

This presentation summarizes the evolving Theory of Constraints (TOC) knowledge in scholarly literature, covering streams like CCPM, TP, throughput accounting, and operations management. It analyzes over 1000 operations and supply chain papers.

  • The pillars of TOC: Driving quantum improvement for aerospace giants; part 1: Boeing inherent simplicity for inherent complexity at Boeing

    Course

Boeing is using the concept of Inherent Simplicity to develop a robust, low-tech solution. This approach is accelerating flow and improving productivity on complex development programs for the world's largest aerospace company.

  • Growth through simplicity

    Course

GCPL utilizes simple, in-house TOC solutions to manage complexity from growth/acquisitions. Deployment enhanced on-time performance, inventory mix, and inventory turns. The model is adaptable for many SMEs.

  • Standing on the shoulders of the technology giants

    Course

WBS alone limits impact without TOC logistical apps. A WBS is a silo. CCPM is the first real addition to basic PM since the 50s-60s, significantly improving delivery performance from < 50% for non-CCPM projects.

  • Performing fast results’ POC in Toshiba Solutions Corporation

    Course

A Japanese company used TOC, achieving a 35% production lead time reduction in 4 months. The speaker will discuss the TOC application, fast results, implementation challenges, and next steps for cultural and operational change.

  • TOC rescues Swisher Hygiene (Nasdaq: SWSH) with cash from under their own mattress

    Course

Facing financial trouble in late 2014, Swisher Hygiene used TOC demand-pull and lean techniques, along with a 5-belt continuous improvement program, to access over $7M in cash. They became cash positive by Q2 2015 and were later sold to Ecolab.
