2017 TOCICO International Conference

The TOCICO Theory of Constraints International Conference: 15th Annual Worldwide Gathering of TOC Professionals, held in Berlin, Germany, from July 16–19, 2017, brought together Theory of Constraints practitioners, consultants, researchers, executives, and educators from around the world to share implementation experiences, emerging ideas, and practical applications of TOC.

Conference presentations focused on supply chain and replenishment, production and operations, Critical Chain Project Management, finance and measurements, thinking processes, strategy, leadership, government, education, marketing, and organizational change. Through case studies, workshops, and educational sessions, presenters demonstrated how TOC principles can help organizations improve flow, strengthen decision-making, increase throughput, manage constraints, and achieve sustainable growth across a wide range of industries.

The event highlighted both established TOC applications and new developments, including advances in replenishment, throughput economics, project management, conflict resolution, organizational transformation, innovation, and the integration of TOC with Agile, Lean, quality management, and other improvement methodologies.

    Course

A DBR implementation synchronized flow, increasing throughput. Overcoming idle resources via insourcing tripled ROI, leading to exploring new supply chain solutions and project management implementation for further ROI increase.

  • What to measure when - workshop

    Course

Workshop using Ravi Gilani's diagrams to visualize money flows and pools for non-accountants. The focus is on metrics and dashboards to guide employees, aligning creativity with the goal of increasing earnings.

  • Inventing new solutions using the 33-year old theory

    Course

DBR, CCPM, and replenishment are standard TOC solutions based on global optimization. Sanjeev will show how to apply TOC principles to solve any operations management problem using real-life examples, even those not covered by standard solutions.

  • Reducing the walls of chronic conflict: TOC and the Dignity Model

    Course

This presentation proposes combining the logical TOC approach with Dr. Donna Hicks' Dignity Model (emotional link) to more effectively resolve chronic conflicts in various environments, building on a 2017 conference presentation.

  • Application of TOC MTA injections for distribution center capacity increase

    Course

A pharmaceutical distributor adopted a pull inventory system (TOC supply chain solution) to increase picking capacity without investment. Changes to stockkeeping and eliminating manual administration boosted daily pick-up lines to 70K.

  • The constraint matrix

    Course

The Constraint Matrix (CMX) framework clarifies the varied perceptions of TOC constraints, classifying them as "positive" (high performance) or "negative" (negative impact) in for-profit settings, with strategic and tactic focuses.

  • Critical chain project management advanced workshop: Creating competitive advantage

    Course

Workshop objectives: Deepen understanding & application of Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM) to gain competitive advantage. Topics include multi-project differences, constraints, implementation, dependencies, and management tools.

  • Microsoft supply chain implementation

    Course

Microsoft's supply chain IT team implemented a Theory of Constraints (TOC)-based end-to-end SCM solution for their Global Digital Supply Chains starting in September 2015, using SAP and SAP APO.

  • A made to measure and made to order – the new fashion formula – from sheep to suit

    Course

The case examines the global apparel supply chain for men's suits, divided into ready-to-wear, bespoke, and made-to-measure (MTM). It centers on Richmart, a Bulgarian contract manufacturer and MTM suit pioneer.

  • Parting the clouds - Enhanced prioritization for MTS / MTA orders (TN)

    Course

In MTS/MTA environments, when demand exceeds supply, the work order prioritization switches from '% Stock Remaining' (On Hand + Supply / Buffer Size) to '% Time Buffer remaining' based on the demand's due date to maintain relevance.

  • Endress+hauser: Critical chain combined with agile - A case study of a breakthrough and new implementation speed record

    Course

Integrating agile methods with Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM) boosted project throughput by +270% and cut lead time and delays. Full CCPM implementation took 31 days.

  • Progressive Resolution

    Course

Progressive Resolution is a tool to resolve disagreements by graphically plotting real or perceived disputes on a spectrum, creating a Cartesian graph of consensus and dispute. This reveals the core conflict, leading to resolution and team progress.

  • Applying TOC to government: A better management paradigm!

    Course

This presentation proposes using the Theory of Constraints (TOC) not just to improve government, but to run it. Government leaders can revolutionize management and achieve breakthrough results by integrating TOC into operations.
